Three state champions for Hornet track and field

The Big Lake track and field team had three state champions crowned at the state meet this past Saturday at STMA High School. 

Owen Layton started off the day by winning the 1600m race with a time of 4:13.54. Owen also earned a spot on the podium in the 3200m, finishing in fourth place with a time of 9:14.13. Both were PR's for Owen as well.

Jack Leuer won the 800m race with a time of 1:54.36, which was a season best and PR for him. 

Tayla Gassman took home two first place medals, winning the wheelchair shot put with a distance of 20-00.75 and winning the discus with a distance of 40-04. Both distances are new MSHSL Class AA records as well.

The Hornets 4x400 relay team of Caleb Kennedy, Josh Kennedy, Owen Layton, and Jack Leuer finished 13th in prelims with a time of 3:29.42 and did not qualify for the finals.
