History Day regional qualifiers announced
After impressing the judges with their research during the school-wide competition, 35 Big Lake Middle School groups earned the opportunity to represent Big Lake at the Central Minnesota Regional History Day competition.
The event will be held on Saturday, March 21, at Saint Cloud State University, where students will compete for the chance to move on to the State competition.
National History Day (NHD) is a national program that encourages students to explore historical research. Students choose a topic centered around the annual theme, and then spend months conducting research, analyzing and interpreting their findings, and coming to conclusions about their topics’ significance in history. It all culminates at the NHD school competition, where students present their work to volunteer judges.
This year’s theme was “Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History,” purposefully coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
As always, this event was a display of some amazing work. Congratulations to all participants for a job well done, and good luck to all who move on to regionals!
